IRHA meets with Sinn Feinn to discuss UK HGV Levy

The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) recently met with representatives from Sinn Féin to discuss the ongoing impact of the UK HGV Levy on Irish road haulage operators.

The levy applies to foreign-registered heavy goods vehicles using UK roads, including many Irish hauliers carrying out routine cross-border transport operations on the island of Ireland.

For a long time, the IRHA has highlighted the significant financial burden this places on operators, adding costs to businesses that are already dealing with rising fuel, labour, insurance and compliance expenses.

“Our position remains clear. Irish hauliers provide an essential service to businesses, communities and supply chains across the island. Measures that increase operating costs and create additional barriers to the efficient movement of goods should be carefully reviewed, IRHA President Ger Hyland said.

He added: “We welcome the opportunity to engage with elected representatives from all parties on issues affecting the road haulage sector like this. We will continue raising this issue with stakeholders in both Ireland and the UK on behalf of our members.”
