New TPMS rules set to take effect in July

0

New legislation applicable to Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) will come into effect across Europe from 7th July. The new law outlines the minimum operating standard for TPMS devices, including the data that’s displayed to drivers in real-time.

From 7th July, all new commercial vehicles must be equipped with a working TPMS on all tyres including trailers, at the point of registration.

The most significant element of the new legislation is that any detected tyre pressure change greater than 20 per cent must now be displayed inside the vehicle. This will warn drivers of a potential tyre issue before the tyre becomes dangerous or at risk of damage.

There has been a broad welcome for the new legislation which is seen as a positive step towards making all commercial vehicles safer and more efficient.
