The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has welcomed government’s decision to extend fuel duty relief into the autumn.
Government has announced an extension of the temporary reductions to fuel excise and the National Oil Reserves Agency Levy (NORA).
These temporary reductions were due to expire on 31 July and will now be extended in full until 31 August with a phased restoration to pre reduction levels taking place between September and December.
In addition to these measures, the temporary enhancement to the Diesel Rebate Scheme for hauliers and road transport operators will be extended until 30 September 2026.
To avoid any cliff edge removal of supports, the Government has announced a pathway to gradually restore excise duty and NORA rates to pre-reduction levels.
IRHA President Ger Hyland told HGVIreland.com “We welcome the Government’s announcement this week that they will postpone any increase in fuel excise duty until at least September.”
He added: “Following weeks of dialogue and lobbying with Government, we are pleased that our concerns, and those of Ireland’s road haulage operators, have been heard.”
“We appreciate the Government’s willingness to engage with the IRHA and recognise the importance of maintaining a competitive and sustainable road transport sector.”
“The decision to postpone any increase will provide welcome short-term relief for transport businesses that continue to face significant cost pressures.”
