Galway-based waste management specialists, Walsh Waste has augmented its fleet of 19 Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles with the recent addition of a new heavy-duty Actros truck.Complete with water-jetting and recycling unit, supplied by Underground Technical Services (UTS) and built in Altenmunster, Germany, by Wiedemann Envirotec, the new truck replaces an older Actros unit which has proved a reliable performer for the Company since 2011.
Factory painted in the Company’s distinctive red and grey livery, the Actros will be used to provide high pressure jetting of large diameter sewer lines and has the ability to clean the jetting water and reuse it continuously from the same location – saving on both time and water consumption.
A Mercedes-Benz customer for 13 years, Walsh Waste operations director, Tom Walsh puts the appeal of the vehicle down to ‘the performance and reliability of the previous Actros water recycling unit on the fleet’. ‘It was so impressive, it convinced us to purchase more Mercedes-Benz trucks in the intervening years,’ he added.
Supplied by Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles main dealer, Kinahan Commercials of Moate, the 2551L 6×2 rear steer Actros rigid chassis comes complete with 510bhp engine, nine tonne front axle and eight tonne rear steer axle, 2.3metre Stream Space sleeper cab, comfort cab suspension and multimedia cockpit.
Joining a fleet of 45 units, the new Actros forms part of the firm’s continuous fleet upgrading policy. A family-owned business since 1972, Walsh Waste is one of Ireland’s most experienced waste management companies, providing collection and recycling services across the domestic, commercial, industrial and building sectors.
