FTA Ireland has welcomed the Government’s decision to pause the fuel excise increases planned for September and October.
FTA Ireland says the pause removes an immediate additional cost pressure at a time when businesses across the sector are already managing volatile fuel prices and rising operating costs.
While this is a positive and pragmatic step, it should be viewed as a temporary pause rather than a final resolution, FTA Ireland says.
Fuel remains one of the most significant operating costs for freight and logistics businesses. Increases can have a direct impact on operators, supply chains, business competitiveness and, ultimately, the wider economy.
FTA Ireland says thefocus must now turn to providing greater certainty for the months ahead. Businesses need a predictable policy framework that allows them to plan, invest and transition with confidence. Short-term interventions are welcome during periods of uncertainty, but a longer-term and balanced approach will be essential.
