Exclusive FTA Ireland Seminar to Focus on Practical Pathways to Safer, Cleaner Transport

FTA Ireland will bring together government, industry and transport leaders at its Sustainable Transport Seminar 2026, taking place on Wednesday, 16 September, from 09:00 to 15:30 at The Johnstown Estate, Enfield.

Recognised as an official EU Ireland Presidency Associated Event, the seminar will connect Ireland’s transport experience with wider European priorities on decarbonisation, competitiveness, innovation and resilient supply chains, while maintaining a strong focus on practical solutions for operators.

Minister of State at the Department of Transport Seán Canney will deliver the keynote address, while broadcaster and comedian Colm O’Regan will act as Master of Ceremonies.

The event will also feature the launch of two major industry reports:

  • FTA Ireland’s Manager’s Guide to Distribution Costs Report 2026 – a highly respected publication widely referenced by business executives benchmarking and navigating the economic realities of a changing market

  • The Coillte Decarbonisation Log Haulage Report – addresses one of road freight’s most challenging heavy-haulage and hard-to-abate activities. It establishes a baseline for current forestry haulage operations and costs, identifies the stakeholders required to deliver change, and sets out how progress can be measured. While focused on forestry haulage, its principles are relevant to other hard-to-abate transport sectors.

FTA Ireland Chief Executive Niall Cotton said: Transport operators are managing significant change. They must reduce emissions, improve safety, control costs and adopt new technologies while continuing to deliver reliable and competitive services.

This seminar is designed to help operators respond in a practical and informed way. It brings policymakers, industry leaders and technical experts together to share experience, identify workable solutions and examine what is needed to build a safer, cleaner and more resilient transport sector.

The seminar will also highlight positive cooperation with the insurance sector around recognition of FTA Ireland’s TruckSafe, PassengerSafe™ and VanSafe™ standards. This work is focused on supporting safer, more compliant transport operations and ensuring that operators investing in recognised standards and good risk-management practices receive appropriate recognition. The cooperation also extends to the Commercial Driver Apprenticeship Programme, supporting the development of the next generation of professional drivers and promoting strong safety, training and operational standards across the sector.

The seminar is aimed at senior executives, transport and fleet managers, policymakers, insurers, technology providers and representatives from the logistics, retail, manufacturing and passenger transport sectors.

Sponsors of this year’s event include Allianz, Capital Insurance Market, EcoFleet, Gas Networks Ireland, Midland Tyre Services, Flogas alongside other key industry partners and exhibitors
