Details of extension to Road Transporters Support Scheme announced

The Road Transporters Support Scheme (RTSS) has been extended for a further two months for September and October.

Funding of €73 million has been allocated to continue to assist haulage and passenger operators with the high price of diesel.

“The extension of the Road Transporters Support Scheme recognises the challenges facing haulage and passenger transport operators. It also recognises their critical role in supporting the supply chain, which means that every day they help keep shelves stocked, businesses supplied, exports moving, and people connected to work, education and vital services.

“Along with the continuation of the cut to excise on petrol and diesel until May 2027, the RTSS aims to mitigate the impacts of price increases following the Middle East conflict,” said  Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien

“The extension of the RTSS offers crucial support to all working in our logistics and supply chains, as the sector enters one of the busiest times of its year. This additional allocation of €73 million provides further certainly and practical support to thousands of operators facing sustained pressure from fuel costs,” added Minister of State with responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, Seán Canney

“The extension of the RTSS is a support measure that will help protect jobs, support businesses and reduce the risk of higher costs being passed on to households,” said Minister of State with responsibility for Rural Transport Jerry Buttimer.

The RTSS opened in May 2026 and provides financial support to licenced hauliers, the own account sector, and commercial coach operators to help meet the challenges posed by increased fuel costs arising from the war in the Middle East.

More than 4,400 applications in respect of over 31,500 vehicles have been received. The processing of these applications is nearly complete and payments have issued to the vast majority of successful applicants already.

Once original applications are complete, further payments for September and October will then be processed. Applicants will not need to complete additional applications. The Department aims to complete the process before year end.
