Hauliers and commercial vehicle operators using Stena Line services between Ireland and Britain are being advised of new passport requirements coming into effect from Monday, 28 September 2026.

From that date, passengers travelling on the Dublin–Holyhead and Rosslare–Fishguard routes will be required to present a valid passport or passport card before departure.

No other forms of identification will be accepted, and the requirement will apply to all passengers, regardless of age or nationality.

The change is particularly important for haulage companies, transport operators and HGV drivers regularly using these key freight routes. Operators should ensure that drivers are aware of the new requirements and have the correct documentation before arriving at the port.

Stena Line says the change is being introduced to meet UK Border Force requirements relating to the accuracy and integrity of passenger data prior to boarding.

Customers with existing bookings are being contacted by Stena Line’s Customer Service Team ahead of the change.

There is no change to ID requirements for business or leisure passengers travelling with Stena Line from Belfast, Liverpool, Cairnryan or Heysham.

Hauliers using the Dublin–Holyhead and Rosslare–Fishguard corridors should brief drivers now to help avoid delays or disruption at check-in from 28 September.
