The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has raised the issue of road tolls and their impact on the haulage industry following the intervention of Offaly TD, Carol Nolan.
Independent TD Carol Nolan has highlighted figures showing that €23.7 million was collected at the Portlaoise toll plaza in 2025 alone, raising important questions about the long-term impact of tolling on motorists, businesses and commercial vehicle operators.
Writing on its LinkedIn.com page the IRHA says tha” For haulage operators, toll charges are a significant operating cost and form part of the daily reality of moving goods throughout the country. These costs influence transport budgets, business planning and the wider efficiency of supply chains.”
“Road freight plays a vital role in supporting Ireland’s economy, so it’s vital that discussions around transport infrastructure, road funding and tolling arrangements consider the needs of the operators who keep goods moving every day.”
The IRHA says it will continue to engage with policymakers and stakeholders on matters affecting the haulage industry and to advocate for a transport network that supports sustainable economic growth across all regions.
