Montgomery Transport marks landmark year after operational transformation

Newtownabbey based logistics provider Montgomery Transport Group has reported a landmark year following a major redesign of its operating model to strengthen performance and service reliability.

Over the past 12 months, the business – a long-standing member of the Palletways network – has brought together its transport, distribution, tank services, customs, warehousing and freight management capabilities into a single integrated operating model.

The transformation has been led by Managing Director Steven McBride, Head of Commercial Tyler Eaton and Interim Operations Director Nigel Moore, with a focus on improving coordination, visibility and accountability across the organisation, which has sites in Preston and Newtownabbey.

This integrated approach has delivered a market-leading on-time delivery rate of 99.7% across Montgomery’s fleet of more than 200 trucks and over 750 trailers.

The model has also delivered benefits for the company’s growing customer base. In one case, a major client achieved a 7% reduction in annual global freight spend following consolidation of its logistics requirements within the new model.

In another, Montgomery Transport Group reduced damage-related claims by 92% for a new customer within six months of taking on its full end-to-end requirements.

Alongside operational performance, Montgomery Transport Group has continued to invest in capability and compliance, including achieving a BRCGS AA grade at its Preston Alpha site following its first inspection.

In addition, the business partnered with Aerodyne to fit its trucks with wind deflectors designed to reduce fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions across its fleet.

It was also named National and International Haulier of the Year at the Export & Freight Transport & Logistics Awards 2025.

Steven McBride said: “This has been a landmark year for Montgomery Transport Group and a really proud one for the business. The changes we’ve made to our operating model have fundamentally strengthened how we work, and the results are now clearly coming through in our performance and the service we deliver to customers.

What stands out most is the consistency we’ve achieved across the network, which is a direct result of bringing our capabilities closer together.

Winning National and International Haulier of the Year is a real testament to the commitment and professionalism of our team, and reflects the standards they set every day.

While this has been a strong 12 months, it has also set a new benchmark for us to meet and exceed going forward, and our focus now is on building on that performance.”

Warwick Trimble, UK Network Director for Palletways, added: “The transport and logistics sector is constantly evolving, and Montgomery Transport Group is a strong example of an operator that continues to review, refine and strengthen its approach. We are proud to have them as a long-standing member of the Palletways network.”

Montgomery Transport Group is one of over 130 independent transport providers that are part of the Palletways UK network.
