Decarbonising Ireland’s transport – exclusive FTA Seminar

FTA Ireland will host its annual Sustainable Transport Seminar 5th November 2025, uniting government, industry, and academic leaders to accelerate progress toward Ireland’s 2030 decarbonisation targets for transport.

Ireland’s Climate Action Plan sets an ambitious target: a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the transport sector by 2030, compared with 2018 levels. This puts the focus firmly on both Government and industry to transition toward low- and zero-emission vehicles and supporting infrastructure.

With just five years left to meet Ireland’s 2030 climate goals, transport operators face both challenge and opportunity — to decarbonise, reduce costs, and future-proof operations.

Despite this significant challenge, Ireland’s 2050 goal for the transport sector is net zero greenhouse gas emissionsaccording to membership association FTA Ireland. But with such far-reaching and legally binding targets — and with operational costs continuing to rise — how can transport businesses deliver on these commitments while staying competitive?

With this challenge in mind, Minister of State Seán Canney TD has been confirmed as keynote speaker at FTA Ireland’s annual Sustainable Transport Seminar, taking place on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, at The Johnstown Estate, Enfield. The event will bring together leading voices from government, industry, and academia to discuss practical pathways to sustainable logistics.

FTA Ireland’s Chief Executive, Niall Cotton, explains: “Decarbonisation remains the biggest challenge facing our industry. Achieving the Government’s targets will require collective action, investment, and practical guidance to help operators of all sizes transition to low- and zero-emission technologies. The Sustainable Transport Seminar provides a vital platform to exchange ideas, learn from real-world case studies, and identify the operational changes needed to future-proof our sector. Ireland’s logistics sector is resilient, forward-looking, and ready to adapt, added Cotton. Events like this ensure our members have the insights, partnerships, and policy alignment needed to make the transition to net zero a reality.”

In addition to the Minister’s address, the packed one-day agenda will feature expert briefings on:

  • Logistics Supply Chain Skills Group updates
  • Sustainability operations & decarbonisation
  • ECOdriving and influencing driver
  • Road safety enforcement and risk management
  • Compliance and Vision initiatives
