Primeline Group has been recognised for its efforts to promote sustainability once again, in a new nationwide awards programme. County Meath’s biggest employer won the ‘Sustainable Workplace’ award in the inaugural Newstalk Changemaker Business Awards, which took place at the Round Room in Dublin’s Mansion house.
Award organisers were aiming to celebrate ‘individuals and teams that demonstrate the innovative mindset, collaborative leadership and empathetic problem-solving skills that result in transformation and real impact in the workplace’.
During the ceremony, Primeline was recognised as a company with a sustainability strategy which is ‘comprehensive at every level, aimed at reducing environmental impact, enhancing operational efficiency and fostering a positive social impact. Their approach to net zero is not just a target, but a whole business change’.
Primeline Group has made significant progress in its ESG drive over the past few years, including:
- opening Ireland’s largest Irish-owned net-zero energy certified distribution centre, creating 400 new jobs at its Ashbourne campus.
- installing over 1,200 solar panels on its existing warehouses, which will work with the new Gold/Silver LEED certified units and mean Primeline will now generate nearly 1,000 kW of renewable electricity annually.
- signing a corporate Power Purchase Agreement (cPPA), ensuring all its energy is renewable and traceable back to the Currabwee Wind Farm in Co. Cork.
- donating 291.6 tonnes of surplus food through its ongoing partnership with FoodCloud, equivalent to 694,248 meals and avoiding 933.1 tonnes of CO₂e emissions.
The Newstalk Changemaker award follows another win for Primeline Group at the Irish Logistics and Transport Awards where it was also named Sustainable Team of the Year. Keith Haugh – Chief Operating Officer says “This award category was about recognising organisations that have made significant strides in reducing their carbon footprint, promoting green practices, and fostering a culture of sustainability among employees, and we are delighted to have been named as the winners.
We’ve put a serious amount of effort and investment into our ESG programme and having this recognition is a fantastic reward but it’s also fuelling our drive to push on and see what else we can achieve in this area. I’d like to congratulate our ESG leaders Debbie Johnston and Jonatan Krieser for their hard work in bringing us this far and I can’t wait to see what comes next”.
Debbie Johnston – Head of ESG and Programme Management at Primeline Group says the hard work continues: “This is brilliant news for all of us at Primeline Group and I’d like to thank the judges and everyone involved in the Newstalk Changemaker Awards – it’s great to be able to say we were among the very first winners of what is sure to be a great programme for the future.
For us, our work continues, we’re looking forward to publishing our sustainability report in the coming weeks which will provide insights into Primeline Group’s energy performance, emissions, social impact, and long-term goals.
We will continue to keep ESG at the forefront of everything we do, expanding our renewable energy capabilities, adopting new technology and driving forward toward a net-zero future”.
