The Department of Transport is putting the final touches to the recently announced Road Transporters Support Scheme, before bringing it to government for final approval, HGVIreland.com can confirm.
A spokesperson at the Department of Transport has confirmed that the scheme will support
both licenced and own account hauliers, as well as licenced passenger operators, subject to eligibility requirements.
The spokesperson confirmed that the Department of Transport is currently finalising the operation of the scheme. The plans will go to Government shortly for final approval on the eligibility and payment amounts.
Payments will be backdated to 01 March 2026, with additional payments made for April and May, if the national average price of diesel exceeds €1.90 per litre in the month.
Coach operators providing Local Link and school transport services will have a separate support measure introduced through the contractual arrangements with providers of these services.
The combined cost per month of these supports to the transport sector is estimated at €40 million. Details of how to apply for the scheme will be made available as soon as possible.
The spokesperson would neither confirm or deny, whether HVO and BioCNG would be covered under the scheme, saying the Department could not confirm “further details” until the scheme was approved by government.
