The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) is offering advice on axle weights to keep hauliers legal and compliant.

“Many operators focus on the vehicle’s total weight, but that’s only part of the picture. You could still be committing an offence if one or more axles exceed their permitted weight,” IRHA President Ger Hyland said.

He added: “Weight must be distributed correctly across the vehicle, but you must also stay within the manufacturer’s design limits where these are lower than the legal maximum.”

A few minutes spent checking can help avoid enforcement action and – more importantly – keep you and other road users safe.
