Irish Road Haulage Association President, Ger Hyland, has confirmed that a protest planned for tomorrow, Tuesday March 10th, in Dublin has been suspended pending the outcome of talks with Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien.
Minister O’Brien rang MR. Hyland from Rio De Janeiro in Brazil this evening and his Department has set up a face to face meeting on the Minister’s return from Brazil.
According to Hyland, the Irish Road Haulage Association is willing to hear government out and meet without pre-conditions with a view to resolving what is fast becoming one of the biggest crises to face the haulage industry in 20 years.
Hyland also cautioned that hauliers would not be deterred from protest action in the short term by empty promises and that these talks should lead to lasting solutions.
