The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has reported a continued reduction in driving test waiting times, with the average national wait now at 14.1 weeks, as of 26 July. This marks a steady improvement from the peak of 27 weeks earlier this year.
The shorter waiting times follow the implementation of a targeted action plan launched in response to a sharp rise in demand. With the support of the Department of Transport, additional driver testers have been recruited and scheduling has been expanded to increase test availability.
Brendan Walsh, Chief Operating Officer of the RSA, said: “We understand how important the driving test is in people’s lives – for work, education, and independence. While challenges remain, we’re working hard to ensure everyone gets fair and timely access to testing, and we’re encouraged by the progress made so far.”
The RSA continues to monitor demand and remains focused on returning to the 10-week target by September.
