As of 1 July 2026, all light commercial vehicles (LCV) registered in the EU and operating internationally for hire or reward must be fitted with a smart tachograph version 2.

This will help level the playing field between LCVs and HDVs, in particular by harmonising EU rules and enforcement on:

* Driving and rest times for drivers
*Posting of workers
* And protect drivers’ rights while ensuring fair competition
