IRHA welcomes reopening of Holyhead port

The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has welcomed the full reopening of Holyhead port following seven months of disruptions due to storm damage.

Both berths at the Welsh port are now fully operational. However, former, IRHA President Eugene Drennan has expressed concerns at the scheduling of crossings, saying that haulage operators could be adversely affected.

The port of Holyhead in Wales fully reopened on Friday, 18th July after damage sustained during Storm Darragh in December last year.

Meanwhile, Seán Canney, the Minister of State with responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, said he was very pleased to see both berths in Holyhead Port back in full operation today.

He commented: “This re-opening brings additional resilience to our sea connections, as we revert to the synchronised sailing schedules favoured by and aligned to the systems used in the logistics sector,” he added.
