Gas Networks Ireland has signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement with the Corrib Joint Venture to advance a green hydrogen pilot project at the Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal in Co. Mayo.
This project will explore the potential to produce green hydrogen using renewable electricity while leveraging Corrib’s existing energy infrastructure. This represents an important milestone in planning how renewable gases will support and future proof Ireland’s gas network.
Backed by strong wind conditions, a strategic coastal location and established infrastructure, the Corrib site offers a unique opportunity to develop one of Ireland’s leading hydrogen hubs. The pilot will provide valuable insights into the technical, safety and network considerations essential for planning a net zero energy future.
Green hydrogen has the capacity to strengthen Ireland’s energy security, support regional growth, enable greater energy independence and, over time, help unlock new clean energy export opportunities.
