FTA Ireland is promoting level crossing safety with the support of Iarnród Éireann.
At FTA Ireland’s recent Q2 Council meeting & AGM Frank Golden of Q2 Council meeting & AGM gave a presentation level crossing safety.
Frank’s presentation focused on International Level Crossing Awareness Day (5th June 2025), with a clear and important message: safety at level crossings is critical.
Every level crossing is a point where the public intersects with the rail network—and safety must always come first.
Key topics discussed included:
• Barrier strikes and their consequences
• Emergency procedures in the event of a bridge strike
• Traffic analysis at crossings
• GoSafe research at high-risk sites
• Garda GoSafe Halo 2.1 safety camera installations
Niall Cotton of FTA Ireland commented: “Frank also highlighted the significant investment in systems, technology, and the ongoing efforts of Iarnród Éireann’s vigilant, professional, and dedicated teams who work tirelessly behind the scenes to protect all crossing users. Let’s continue to raise awareness and keep safety front and centre.”
