Barhale, the civil engineering, infrastructure and tunnelling specialist, has further strengthened its driver performance standards following the adoption of a video telematics solution from SureCam within its 300+ commercial fleet. Over the past 12 months, the company has recorded a 16% uplift in performance against key safety metrics.
“We are fully committed to achieving and maintaining the highest standards of occupational health, safety and wellbeing, so it is essential we have the right tools in place to safeguard our team,” explains Nathan Phipps, Fleet & Transport Manager at BCS Group – part of the Barhale group of companies. “Since installing SureCam’s dashcam solution, we have seen impressive results that have had a direct and positive impact on road safety, fleet compliance and risk exposure across the commercial fleet operation.”
To date, Barhale has rolled-out the dashcams to more than 300 vehicles across the fleet, including small, medium, and large vans such as tippers and dropsides, as well as the BCS Group delivery fleet. A secondary rear-facing camera has been introduced as a technology upgrade and deployed on newly invested vehicles to enhance visibility and support incident review.
The company initially adopted the SureCam solution in 2020 as part of a vehicle supply agreement with Europcar, but has since installed the technology on its growing owned-fleet with the aim of having a single-system video telematics solution moving forward.
The dashcam solution has provided Barhale with access to live and historical footage and supporting data, allowing driver behaviour to be closely monitored and enabling the fleet team to respond appropriately to incidents in real-time or retrospectively. The secondary rear camera has also enhanced visibility across a broader range of incidents, particularly in cases where vehicles were struck from behind helping to provide clear context and support for not-at-fault claims.
“We have seen several key operational and business benefits since implementing the SureCam solution above and beyond our primary safety goal. The adoption of best driving practices has resulted in a reduction in at-fault insurance claims. Additionally, the high-quality and readily available footage enables us to effectively challenge 50/50, exaggerated and false claims, helping to lower our overall claims costs and improve our risk management,” adds Nathan Phipps.
Sam Footer, Partnership Director at SureCam commented: “We are combining reliable and effective technology solutions with unrivalled customer service to develop strong relationships with our customers such as Barhale. This is helping us to constantly advance our video telematics proposition, so it meets the changing needs of the commercial fleet marketplace and delivers measurable ROI.”
