An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will be the guest speaker at the Irish Road Haulage Association Gala Conference Dinner Saturday evening, April 14 at Citywest Hotel, Dublin.
IRHA President, Ms Verona Murphy said: “I am delighted that the Taoiseach has accepted our invitation to attend the Conference Dinner. It is a genuine acknowledgement by the Taoiseach of the importance of the haulage industry, which the IRHA represents, to the Irish economy.”
“This is a hugely significant occasion for us as it is the first time the Taoiseach of Ireland has attended an IRHA conference. However, Leo Varadkar has attended previously, as Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport he attended our conference in 2013. Leo Varadkar has always been hugely supportive of the haulage industry and the Irish Road Haulage Association and I am personally delighted that we will have the chance to acknowledge that at our event.”
Ms Murphy commented that “in a letter to the IRHA in January the Taoiseach stated emphatically that he and his Government are hugely conscious of the importance of the haulage industry to the country’s economic competitiveness. The Taoiseach facilitated the establishment of the new structure of engagement which will ensure regular and clear dialogue between the IRHA and Government to address issues impacting on our members.”
“This is vital for our industry at a time when so many of our members are under pressure due to increased costs, further regulation and of course the impact of Brexit”.
On the AGM and Conference itself, Ms Murphy commented: “This year’s event will be fantastic and we are all looking forward to it immensely. The support for it has been wonderful. This year
our main sponsors of the event and long-time supporters of the IRHA are, Truck manufacturers DAF and trailer manufacturers Dennison.”
Ms Murphy spoke briefly about the various topics for consideration and the exciting new developments the Association has been working on. Ms Murphy said: “This year we have so much on the Agenda and with many issues to discuss with our members. We also have some exciting news on the new IRHA driver traineeship, which is a very positive development and something I know our members will be very encouraged by. There will also be talks and Q&A sessions on driver contracts and employment issues, the work the IRHA are carrying out in Brussels in ensuring the Irish haulage industry interests are being considered in the making of new EU regulation and many other topics”.
The IRHA’s traditional commercial display will be greater than ever with an extensive range of plant and machinery and all manner of equipment in a vast display areas, indoor and outdoor, being provided.
