FTA Ireland wants excise duty cut in place for 12 months

FTA Ireland is calling on government to leave the recent reduction in excise duty on diesel of 15 cent per litre for licensed hauliers in place for 12 months to facilitate strategic planning within the haulage industry.FTA CEO, Aidan Flynn made the call last week in a presentation to to the Joint Committee on Transport and Communications. “The recently introduced excise duty reduction of 15 cent should be in place for commercial vehicles for at least 12 months to enable proper strategic planning and provide certainty for businesses on the future cost of fuel to be considered when tendering for business,” Mr. Flynn stated.

Meanwhile, FTAIreland has suggested that contingency plans for fuel shortages should be developed through engagement with all industry stakeholders to ensure clear communication and understanding if the situation arose.
