FTA Ireland’s TruckSafe standard has been recognised at the annual Road Safety Authority Leading Lights Awards 2022.
The TruckSafe standard, which is industry led, facilitates a path to operational compliance and recognises commercial fleet operators in the ‘own account and haulage’ sectors in Ireland who strive to attain the highest standards of professionalism and operational compliance.
The TruckSafe standard has been recognised in the Business category. Aidan Flynn CEO, FTA Ireland commented: “Work started on the TruckSafe Standard in 2011 and the various levels of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Green have been introduced over the years. The green standard level was introduced in 2021.”
He continued: “A member working group was established to consider and review the subject matter to be included and the rules of engagement were developed. As a starting point for the working group, it was agreed that this standard would fundamentally focus on the minimum legal requirements to run and manage a heavy goods vehicle fleet (own account or haulage) under the following headings: Fatigue, Roadworthiness, Driver Competence; Road Traffic Rules; Safe and Legal Loads; Dangerous Goods; Health and Safety; Road Haulage operator licence; Professional Competence; Sustainable Operations and Contractor and Agency Management.”
He concluded: “We are honoured to receive this award on behalf of our members who through participation in TruckSafe are demonstrating commitment not only to the safety and welfare of their drivers, the highest standards of vehicle roadworthiness, but also to the benefit and safety of all road users.”
