Carbon levy will pay for house insulations

Environment Minister John Gormley has confirmed that a significant percentage of the €250 million that will be raised through the new carbon levy will be spent on insulating old homes.

Minister Gormley unveiled his Carbon Budget on Thursday and said new he intends to bring in new legislation that will commit Ireland to an 80 per cent reduction in greenhouse gases by the year 2050.

The Minister also revealed that a big chunk of the €250 million, which will be raised from the carbon levy next year will go to fund insulation schemes in old houses.
