Dublin based Hawthorn Logistics was one of only 14 companies from across the freight transport industry to walk away with a prestigious ‘International Freight Weekly’ (IFW) Award trophy at a ceremony held at London’s Hilton on Park Lane. Yang Lei (William) of Hawthorn Logistics scooped the ‘Rising Star of Freight” Award after he demonstrated the importance of focusing on the customer.
Yang Lei’s paper on the effects of a one-currency solution for sea freight shipments met with significant approval and interest with the IFW board. This award highlights the open and mentoring attitude that prevails in Hawthorn Logistics and is a very concrete recognition that the training Hawthorn Logistics provides leads to innovative and out-of-the-box thinking.
Hawthorn Logistics Director Terry Allen said: “As a company we promote a very open atmosphere where our team can learn and develop their skills. This award means a great deal to both company owners and team alike. To win this in the face of such strong UK competition and to be the only Irish winner of an IFW award 2010 is a huge achievement both on a personal level for Yang Lei but also for the company”.
Established in 2007, Hawthorn logistics has grown from a team of 4 to 14. Yang Lei is a Master Graduate from the Smurfit Business School and joined Hawthorn Logistics in 2008. He works primarily on Asian Business Development. As part of his remit he researched particular aspects of the current global business model that Hawthorn Logistics perceive to be barriers to better trading.
