The haulage industry has been advised that the average price of diesel across the country this month has risen 0.9cent a litre in the last month to an average of 124.9 cent.
“ Rising fuel prices have been a feature of 2010,” says the AA’ s Director of Policy Conor Faughnan.
“After a brief respite in June, the trend is upwards again. Petrol is up over 10 cents per litre and diesel 9 cents per litre in the last six months.”
The AA survey found variations in the cost of diesel across the country. Diesel fluctuated by nine per cent from 118.9 cent to 129.9 cent.
“The consumer’s best defense against rising prices is to shop around,” says Faughnan. “You can save yourself money, but just as importantly it encourages competition in the market.”
