The International Road Transport Union (IRU) has welcomed the growing interest in secure truck parking areas to ensure driver, vehicle and cargo security, as well as road safety and respect of social regulations.
IRU Head of Goods Transport & Facilitation, Peter Krausz commented: “The approval of the Council’s position on the draft EU Directive on intelligent transport systems is a very positive step forward, as this Directive will give top priority to applying ITS solutions to truck parking area information and reservation systems.”
However, Krausz underlined that modern web applications such as the IRU/ITF TRANSPark will reach their full potential provided a sound balance between supply and demand on the Truck Parking Area (TPA) market is achieved, making all parties and TPA operators in particular, interested in sustaining sophisticated ITS systems, and called upon authorities to build sufficient parking areas in order to meet the demand for TPAs from increasing road freight traffic.
