The European Union has proposed that vans and light trucks should be fitted with speed limiters preventing them from exceeding more than 120 km per hour to improve fuel efficiency and reduce C02 emissions.
The EU is in the process of formulating plans to reduce CO2 emissions from vans and light trucks.
An EU report suggests that the mandatory fitment of speed limiters on light commercial vehicles would be a cheap and effective way to reduce C02 emissions in the sector.
The report says that the technology is readily available and could be retro-fitted to vehicles currently in service.
Separately the European Commission has proposed cutting van emissions to 175 gms of carbon dioxide per km by 2016, and to 135 gms per km by 2020.
